It’s a fantastic achievement, and because The Forge is a Platforms construction project, we’ll be able to take what we’ve learned to create further benefits on future projects.. With the Forge, we’ve been able to prototype the project in advance of it going on-site.
When I was writing about the.Finding Places project.
undertaken in Hamburg for our recent book.Design to Value., I was immediately taken by the humility of the process.
This project was the city’s response to the allocation of 20,000 migrants fleeing Syria, Afghanistan, and Iraq to be housed.This was a people problem with complex, strong and diverse views and issues to negotiate.
Although they used some very advanced modelling techniques, this was done only to support and inform a big conversation.
They largely got rid of the traditional processes of city planning, keeping only those things that seemed immovable.Do we need better data or knowledge about a certain aspect?
Do we need to model some aspects in more detail?Does the solution need to be completely different?
Have we formulated the problem properly in the first place?Working with a Design to Value approach enables this type of questioning and flexibility..
